Steve's emotional baseline improves immediately when he finds a fresh muddy bank. Rolling is recreation, skincare, and self-expression all at once.
Favorite things
What makes Steve genuinely happy?
Some creatures want power, mystery, and world domination. Steve wants mud, apples, shiny rocks, dramatic fish chases, and a perfectly timed afternoon nap.
If an apple exists in Steve's broader region, he assumes it belongs to him. He prefers them crisp, slightly tart, and close enough to steal quietly.
He is not especially good at catching fish, which somehow makes the activity more appealing. The splash is the point.
Steve selectively hoards smooth river stones and keeps them near his shelter. No one knows why. He does not share them.
Once fully tired, Steve prefers filtered light, soft moss, and the sound of water nearby. He can fall asleep almost anywhere if the ground is respectable.
How to keep Steve happy
The unofficial guide to earning his approval.
Fortunately, Steve's standards are clear. Meet them and he is warm, curious, and delightful. Ignore them and he will quietly judge you with profound disappointment.
Bring snacks
Fruit is ideal, especially apples. Berries work too, but they do not inspire the same deep personal respect.
Respect the rock collection
Those shiny stones are arranged with purpose, even if only Steve understands the system.
Do not interrupt a nap
A sleepy Steve is still sweet, but he will let out a theatrical sigh that suggests you have ruined everything.
Expect mud
Every visit ends with wet footprints somewhere. This is not a bug in Steve's personality. It is a defining feature.
